Mesothelioma immunotherapy is a type of cancer treatment that harnesses the power of your own immune system to fight against mesothelioma cancer cells.
Unlike traditional treatments like chemotherapy and radiation, which directly target and damage cancer cells, immunotherapy works by stimulating your immune system to recognize and destroy these cells itself.

Mesothelioma Immunotherapy
Types of Immunotherapy Used For Mesothelioma
- Immune checkpoint inhibitors: These are the most common type, blocking specific molecules on immune cells that prevent them from attacking cancer cells. Examples include nivolumab (Opdivo) and ipilimumab (Yervoy).
- Cancer vaccines: These train your immune system to recognize and attack specific proteins on mesothelioma cells. One promising vaccine in development is L-BLP25.
- Adoptive cell therapy (CAR T-cell therapy): This is a newer and more personalized approach where immune cells are removed from your body, modified in a lab to recognize mesothelioma cells, and then re infused into your body to attack the cancer. This therapy is still under investigation for mesothelioma.
